Flight Collection No. 003 — Mallard

A one-of-a-kind piece of Texas mesquite, shaped by hand and transformed into a functional work of art.

No. 003 of the Shephard & Sons Flight Collection features a mallard captured in flight, with the bird extending beyond the serving surface to become part of the silhouette and handle of the board. Detailed engraving across the wings, body and head gives the mallard remarkable depth while allowing the natural grain and character of the mesquite to remain central to the design.

This individual piece was crafted from Texas-grown mesquite selected for its striking grain and natural color variation. A contrasting sweep of lighter wood follows the lower edge of the board, creating a natural border beneath the rich brown heartwood. Rather than hiding those variations, we preserved them as part of what makes No. 003 impossible to duplicate.

The reverse is permanently engraved with the Shephard & Sons Woodworking maker's mark, its Flight Collection designation, Mallard No. 003, and its Texas mesquite provenance.
